Cindy Crawford has announced she is retiring from her phenomenally successful modelling career this month, specifically on her 50th birthday on February 20th. The supermodel declared her intentions in United Airlines? magazine Rhapsody:
“I’m sure I’ll have my picture taken for 10 more years, but not as a model anymore. And that’s okay. I’ve done it. I’ve worked with all these incredible photographers. What else do I need to do? I can’t keep reinventing myself. I shouldn’t have to keep proving myself. I don’t want to.”
Crawford was one of the original ‘supers? alongside Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington, a brand of model who dominated editorials and campaigns throughout the eighties and nineties. Where Cindy went, record-breaking contracts followed, as her tousled brunette locks and distinctive beauty mark was broadcast across the world.
Cindy started modelling when she was seventeen, counting Versace and Pepsi among her resum?, and she recently starred in a Balmain campaign with Campbell and Claudia Schiffer.
However, we sense this won’t be the end of Crawford’s involvement with the fashion world. Her 14-year-old daughter Kaia with husband Rande Gerber has aspirations to follow her mother’s career path. Kaia is on social media, something which Cindy admits contributes to her daughter’s ambitions. “They are all taking pictures of themselves, or having their friends take pictures for their social media,” she said. “Kaia would be modeling even if she weren’t modeling. All the girls are modeling. They are not dependent only on how a photographer sees them. They have a direct relationship with their fans.”
While we’re confident Cindy won’t be a momager in the Kris Jenner style, we are looking forward to seeing her supportive FROW style.
