This annual pass will give you unlimited access to Dublin’s only working farm and gardens, and their summer series of events make it all the more enticing…

For those living in or around Dundrum, an annual pass for Airfield Estate is worth its weight in gold — especially for families with young children to be kept entertained. A beautiful location with a remarkable history, Airfield is an educational charity and visitor attraction left in trust by the Overend family for recreation and education, providing a taste of the country in the city as a 38-acre farm and gardens.

A literal breath of fresh air amidst the chaos of city life, Airfield Estate pushes the boundaries of what agricultural land can achieve, finding innovative ways to use the original family home, gardens, and award-winning restaurant to surprise and delight people of all ages.

Take their 2024 Summer Series, for instance. Coming up in August is NatureFest, a weekend of exploration, learning and lots of fun, where visitors can unlock the wonders of nature and discover the wild plants and animals that call Airfield Estate home. There’ll be hands-on workshops, storytelling, face-painting, expert talks and a nature discovery trail.

Then, in September, there’s the Urban Harvest Festival, which Airfield describes as their version of the National Ploughing Championships (but without the ploughing!). An event that aims to deepen understanding and appreciation of farming and to diminish the urban/rural divide of communities, attendees will be immersed in a tapestry of agricultural traditions such as sheep-shearing, sheep-dog trials and cattle displays. Traditional craftsmanship will be showcased with wood turning and wool spinning. While butter-making and butchery demonstrations will reveal the age-old skills behind farm-to-table cuisine. Amidst it all, visitors can indulge in a diverse array of artisan foods, tantalising the taste buds and nourishing the soul.

There are also plenty of fun family daily activities to enjoy. The little ones can explore miles of paths, enjoy drop-in Craft-R-Noons, play in the woodland playground, visit the farm animals, wander through the seasonal gardens, and much more. Daily activities include egg collection, milking, storytime, science experiments, the Overend Family Tour, seed planting, nature walks, tree talks, and painting with soil.

Yes, these events are open to the public, but if you’ve got an annual pass, you can sail on through free of charge. And, with Airfield open seven days a week from 9.30am to 7.30pm this summer, you can enjoy the estate and make the most of the longer days. You will also have access to Airfield Estate year-round, and you’ll be supporting Airfield as an educational charity and its mission to be Dublin’s sustainable food hub, making an annual pass ideal for families, individuals, and anyone passionate about sustainability.

Group passes (three or more) can nominate an adult to visit in the pass holder’s place.

Options vary from individual passes to couple and family passes, and can be purchased online, over the phone, or at the Airfield Estate ticket desk, from just €9.16 per month. Whether it’s for you and yours or a present for a loved one, an annual pass for Airfield is the gift that keeps on giving.
