I always approach the sales with a two-pronged attack. I get in quick and snap up those substantial pieces that will work come the new season (i.e., denim, silk dresses, knits and great T-shirts), then hold off till it’s mostly the dregs left and go in again for a last pull of those throwaway items that I’d like to have in my summer wardrobe but?will only pay a pittance for (i.e,?jersey maxi dresses, camisole tops, sarongs and flat sandals). Here are five fabulous pieces I’ll be buying now and wearing in autumn.
This very simple silk tunic dress will look great layered up in autumn. Caramel and toffee tones are a strong look?for the coming season so it ticks at least one trend box. I’d layer it over navy athleisure-style pants and a deeper, burnt toffee-hued turtleneck (another big trend for AW).
I love the textured quality of this wool waistcoat. It’s an ideal piece to help bridge the seasons, and in winter, I’ll wear it over a fitted leather jacket with an oversized snood.
Daytime sequins always pique our interest come November/December, but this year they’re forecast to dominate daywear like never before. I love the idea of wearing this subtly sequinned dress over a thin Merino-knit turtleneck.
This pleated skirt reminds me of Victoria Beckham’s SS16 collection. I’ll wear it in winter with an oversized polo neck in navy or burgundy.
We’re used to seeing maritime chic?in summer, but this year nautical style made a huge presence on the AW16 runways. Get ahead of the game by snapping up a couple of cut-price Breton-style pieces in the sales. Even plain striped tees can be layered up come autumn to give your outfit a suggestion of nautical chic.
