The “coastal grandmother” aesthetic has taken over in recent weeks, largely thanks to TikTok, Diane Keaton and her entire Something’s Gotta Give wardrobe. Typified by an aura of understated sophistication, it’s a trend that lends itself nicely to a relaxing seaside existence. Think peaceful beach walks, seafood dinners over glasses of white, and of course, plenty of linen.
Generally favouring colour palettes of white, light grey and beige, coastal grandmothers seem to be happiest in muted neutrals that don’t upset the status quo. Not everyone is built for the monotone life though, and even those of us who crave statement prints and bold patterns can embrace the trend – just stick to linen and keep the top half of your outfit plain and simple so as not to overwhelm. If you can throw in a rattan bucket hat and pair of shades, all the better!
