Practical (but still fun) hair and make-up tips for summer festivals

With the Image Beauty Festival just a month away, and a summer festival season almost upon us, we asked two of Ireland’s foremost make-up and hair experts to give their tips for practical but fun festival beauty tips

Christine Lucignano and David Cashman are icons in the beauty industry – what they don’t know about make-up and hair respectively is not worth knowing.

They are both going to be speaking at the Image Beauty Festival (25-26 May), but ahead of that, we wanted to tap them for some practical, but fabulous festival beauty tips, so when Electric Picnic, Longitude or Forbidden Fruit rolls around, you’re prepped to look and feel great.

Christine Lucignano, celebrity make-up artist @cloochy, says:

“First up, try Bite Beauty’s Multistick, Nars Multiple or Stila Convertible Color Compacts for a product that will work on eyes, lips and cheeks.

“I especially Love Bite Beauty as they are not only cruelty-free, but they are quite inclusive when it comes to the shade range.”

Stila Convertible Colour, €22.50

“Secondly, I advise a good tinted sun screen that can be used on both face and body. I love the La Roche-Posay Tinted Fluid which is a broad spectrum 50+ protection and the tint adjusts to your skin tone.

“It feels like air and will keep you looking great as well as being safe from the environment. Dr Obaji does one too if the budget isn’t an issue.”

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Anti-Shine Tinted Sun Cream Gel SPF50+ 50ml, €23.99

“Finally, one of my fave combos for festival is a Bite Beauty Multistick used on eyes, cheeks and lips and the Kevyn Aucoin Exotic Diamond Eye Gloss used on top!

“This way you can add shine, gloss and glitter to the face, body or hair! You’ve got to love those multi-use products.”

David Cashman, celebrity hair stylist @cashmandjmc, says:

“So, my best hair tips for a festival are: before you arrive to the festival, have freshly washed hair that has been braided. Add a little argan oil to the hair before braiding so it’s protected from the sun. It will also help to keep any frizzy hair at bay.

“When you take down the braids out on day 2, you have an effortless wave to your hair a perfect festival look. Pack a dry shampoo too – this is a life saver at a festival and will make you feel fresher even if you don’t look and feel it.”

Kevin Murphy FRESH.HAIR, €24
