Five reasons you should be using a silk pillowcase
Christmas is definitely a time to indulge in some luxury, whether it’s in a gift for a loved one, or a little something for yourself. We spend a lot of time (and money) investing in luxurious skincare, hair treatments, makeup and massages at this time of year, all to give us a little boost before 2019 comes along. But there is one gift you can buy that rolls a lot of those much-loved luxuries into one, at a fraction of the price.
You might have heard that silk pillowcases are all the rage right now in the beauty world, but you may not have gotten on the bandwagon yet. Silk pillowcases are a really simple way to improve your skin, hair and even your breathing and allergies at nighttime. They’re easy to find in any good beauty outlet, but many of them run at high prices (if you’ve ever bought a silk shirt, you’ll know how expensive silk can be). The good news, however, is that our friends at Cara Pharmacy, as always, have us covered. The Luna Pillowcase, available exclusively at Cara Pharmacy stores and online at carapharmacy.com, is a machine-washable, 19 momme, pure silk pillowcase that is suitable for all skin and hair types — and it’s only €39. And the reviews speak for themselves, with many users saying that the Luna Pillowcase was even better than some of the more expensive brands they had tried, at only a fraction of the price.
If you’re wondering whether a silk pillowcase might be a good last minute gift for someone you love, check out the benefits here:

1) They’re good for your skin

While cotton pillowcases are comfortable, they’re not the best option for your skin. When you hop into bed after your extensive night-time skincare routine, a cotton pillowcase will draw the moisture away from your skin, absorbing it so that it has less time to work its magic where it belongs. This also means that a build-up of products (and bacteria) is more likely to happen with a cotton pillowcase. A silk pillowcase, on the other hand, does not absorb the moisture, and leaves your skin able to maintain a better balance by leaving your products on your face.

2) They’re great for your hair

Too many times have we headed to bed with a gorgeous blow-dry, only to wake up with a terrible case of bedhead 8 hours later. Silk pillowcases are a great remedy for this. Silk does not conduct static electricity, and so reduces hair breakage when you sleep on it. This means that your blow dries will be maintained for longer, without the dreaded static wreaking havoc.

3) They are naturally hypoallergenic

You should ideally change your sheets and pillowcases once a week, but even the most dilligent sheet-changers fall prey to dust mites and allergens while they sleep. Dust and skin particles are easy to build up, especially at this time of year. Silk, however, is a naturally hypoallergenic material, and does not attract dust mites, making it ideal to sleep on.

4) They’re anti-ageing

Waking up with skin creases and lines in the morning is a less than desirable look, but this is much less likely to happen with a silk pillowcase. Silk, being a natural protein fibre, contains amino acids, which can speed up cell metabolism while you sleep. Your cells (along with your perfectly absorbed skincare products!) regenerate and rejuvenate quicker than when you sleep on cotton, and minimise those pesky sleep creases.

4) They feel like pure luxury
