5 TikTok cleaning hacks to keep your house spick and span

Anything that speeds up the cleaning process gets a big yes from us.

TikTok may not be your first port of call when in search of helpful home tips, but it should be. Often written off as being just for Gen-Z, the platform actually has much more to offer than viral dance challenges and dog videos, and it’s the cleaning hacks that have really spoken to us of late.

Staying on top of the upkeep can be challenging when our homes double as both work and play areas, but aside from the practical benefits of having a neat and tidy place to live, studies have shown that cleanliness is good for your mental health too. Not only does it help you feel calmer and less anxious, but it’s conducive to productivity too – all positive things in our eyes.

Most of us don’t have the time to spend meticulously mopping the floors or scrubbing the windows every other day, but these TikTok cleaning hacks are here to show you how to work smarter, not harder.

Invest in The Pink Stuff

I know what you’re thinking; great, more rubbish I’ll never use. Well, according to TikTok, this is the only cleaning product you’ll ever need going forward. A tough cleaning paste that can be used to remove stains and grime off of just about anything, one look at The Pink Stuff hashtag will tell you that it’s a game-changer.

Learn to save a burnt pan

Burnt pans are one of life’s greatest miseries and they’re an absolute nightmare to clean. Scrubbing away at the remnants of your dinner is never enjoyable and it usually spells trouble for your pan too – which is likely to repeat the offence next time you use it.

There solution is simple though, it seems – so simple that all it entails is submerging the pan in a mixture of hot water and bread soda for 20 minutes.

Cleaning your shower

No one likes this job and so we tend to put it off as a result… but, the longer we let it go, the worse it gets. Pick up a kitchen scrub brush when you’re doing the weekly grocery shop, fill the handle with cleaning product and leave it in the shower for the next time it’s hair wash day. Seeing it every time you reach down for the shampoo will encourage you to give the shower a quick wipe while you’re there.

Bad smell remedy

Much as we try to avoid letting food go down the drain, sometimes a piece of pasta or some tuna chunks slip through. If you notice that your sink has a bit of a funky smell, you can easily remedy this by putting a dishwasher tab in the plughole, pouring some hot water over it and letting that dissolve. Follow that up with a dash of disinfectant for good measure, et voilà, bad smell no more.

Fold sheets like a pro

Does anyone really know how to fold a fitted sheet? I’ve spent much of my life just smooshing my hands together and hoping for the best… a highly technical method. Jessica Haizman has a much more pragmatic approach though so will be testing this out going forward.
