WATCH: The first teaser for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah interview is here

WATCH: The first teaser for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah interview is here

In a new teaser clip of the much-anticipated interview, Prince Harry can be heard drawing parallels between the tabloids’ treatment of his wife and his late mother, Princess Diana.

The timing is poignant; almost a year since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped away from the intense tabloid scrutiny of public royal life – to forge a more private lifestyle of their own choosing.

It wasn’t that they were going to ever really change the narrative – they just wanted to control their own.

So, with that, they graciously announced that they were stepping back from their royal duties in order to focus on their family and also “work to become financially independent”.

Since then, the couple has lived in the USA with their one-year-old son, Archie and Meghan and Harry recently announced that they are expecting their second child.

They have found their own rhythm and pace and sitting down with Oprah, in two teasers for the interview, we get a sneak peek of what’s to come. In the full thing, they will explain why they were out of options and had no choice but to go the route they did.

Harry says he felt compelled to step back from the royal family because he feared history was repeating itself.

“I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago,” he reflected. “Because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other.”

“My biggest concern was history repeating itself… and for me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you with my wife by my side.”

Winfrey is seen asking Meghan if it had been “almost unsurvivable,” if there had been a “breaking point” and if she was “silent or silenced”, but the duchess does not speak in either of the clips.

Oprah insists “no topic is off-limits” and will speak with the Duchess of Sussex, in a “wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure,” reads a statement from CBS about the primetime special.

“Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”

The full interview will air this Sunday, March 7th.
