IMAGE.ie interiors columnist Vogue Williams shares 3 hacks to refresh a room without spending a fortune.

I am definitely a person who gets tired of a space quite quickly. I am interiors obsessed so I always want to update somewhere or refresh a room and there are so many ways to do this without spending a fortune. I also love a minimalist feel but having three kids means that’s pretty much impossible but you can finish things off that allow a space to feel polished instead of overloaded with stuff.

CUSHIONS

Cushions and soft furnishing are a great way to switch things up, I’m moving house so keeping as much furniture as possible. I am taking my sofa but will update the cushions I have to create a different feel. If you are going for cushions I would suggest getting lots of different ones with different textures rather than a load of the same ones.

COFFEE TABLE ACCESSORIES

A great coffee table needs three things, a gorgeous book, a beautiful vase and a nice-smelling candle. I love an Assouline book, it’s a great gift to give someone and they can be super colourful. I love the Ibiza, Capri and city ones that they have. I don’t buy a book that has zero meaning to me so I choose ones that I enjoy reading, don’t just get them for decoration. I have found so many in charity shops so go and have a good snoop. There is one vase on my hitlist, the Iittala Aalto vase, this one is pricey so again have a look around because you can get a very well-priced one that is just as beautiful.

PLANTS

I think you’re a plant person or you’re not! I am a plant person and after many failed attempts at keeping plants alive I now feel like a good plant owner. I love the colour and vibrancy they add to a room. I can’t say I know the names of all of the plants I have around the house as I just buy ones that are deemed easy to keep alive. You can get plants anywhere and they don’t need to be expensive but will really transform any room.
