With a design studio in London and New York, Martin Brudnizki has left his mark on some of the world’s most iconic restaurants, bars and hotels. His most recent project brought him to Dublin to create the look of The Ivy Dawson Street.
What was the brief for this project? As with all The Ivy Collection projects, the premise of the design was to create a neighbourhood brasserie that felt local, all whilst embodying the luxury and elegance of the original Ivy restaurant on West Street in London’s West End. With The Ivy Dawson Street, we sought to design a vibrant restaurant that had direct links to Dublin and its history. This was achieved through the art collection, which drew on local literary heritage, landmarks and interests. The result is a space that feels rooted in the city whilst adding a touch of London sophistication. This is my first Irish project, which is very exciting! It’s great to leave our mark in a new area; hopefully people will enjoy it.
Tell me more about the art collection. The artwork, curated by The Ivy Collection’s art consultant, Adam Ellis, creates a unique element to The Ivy Dawson Street. With old and new pieces combined, the restaurant feels like a home filled with artwork that has been collected over the years. Pieces include typographical prints and plans of Dublin and Dublin Bay from 1850. Each piece has a distinct Dublin tie. Literary history, local sports and landmarks can also be found throughout the brasserie.
What do you think will surprise guests? How intimate and local this restaurant feels. The cosy combination of seating, such as sofas, banquettes and armchairs make this feel relaxed, but with the added addition of exquisite materials such as leather, marble and brass, it feels elevated without being intimidating.
