Kevin Smith’s Daughter Reveals She Was “Almost Kidnapped”

In what must have been a scary situation, Harley Quinn Smith – daughter of famed director Kevin Smith and star of Sundance breakout film Yoga Hosers – revealed that two men tried to get the actress to get into their car while she was waiting on her own in Los Angles, claiming to be a taxi service.

Smith took to social media to recount the events, to urge young women to be extra wary of potential dangers when travelling alone.

“I was just standing outside a Starbucks in Brentwood,” she wrote on Instagram, “where I was waiting for my Uber (the US version of Halo) when a large, beige car drove up to me and tried to get me to think they were my Uber. There were two white men (age 20-30) in the driver (blonde hair) and passenger (brown hair) seat with an uber sign on their front window, but they were most definitely not uber drivers. When I asked who they were there to pick up, making sure it was the right car, they wouldn’t answer me and said to get in the car. They didn’t have the Uber app on their phone and were clearly just two disgusting dudes trying to kidnap a girl standing on her own.”

This is a frightening scenario any one of us could find ourselves in – how many of us have jumped into a taxi in a rush without double-checking that each car is properly licensed or without making sure it was even the right car in the first place?

Smith said she got too big a scare to get the plate number of the car in question, but issued a warning so that others could spot the danger signs.

PEOPLE OF LOS ANGELES- I was just standing outside a Starbucks in Brentwood, where I was waiting for my uber when a large, beige car drove up to me and tried to get me to think they were my uber. Protect yourself and never ever get in a car without checking that it’s the correct car first!!! I was in too much haze of fear that I wasn’t thinking straight enough to think to take a picture of the drivers or the license plate, but if you see a car like this PLEASE report it to the police and stop them from trying to pray on other young girls!!! We have already reported it to the police, but more information would be helpful in finding them. Be careful and look out for yourself/others!!!!

Her dad also tweeted the incident, and bought his daughter a special cake to cheer her up:

The moral of this shocking story is that you can never be too careful. Always let someone know where you’re going, make sure you’re getting into the right car (even hail a cab from your local taxi company if you’re getting one alone on the regular as you’ll likely be familiar with the drivers) and trust your instinct; if it doesn’t feel right, walk/run away. Safety first.
