Demi Lovato Says Kim Kardashian Gave Her Body Confidance

Love them or hate them, there’s no escaping the fact that the Kardashians have a place in modern culture. They have particular sway in the fashion industry, and though they are vilified by many, these are hard-working women. Whether it means launching an app, beauty range or clothing line, they put in a serious amount of hours. We’ll gladly acknowledge we have been privy to what you might call ‘Kardashian overload’ in the last 18 months in particular (the ladies are everywhere), but that doesn’t mean it’s all bad. Head honcho Kim is a bonafide icon at this point, and as the man behind Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, so deftly pointed out, she has inspired many women in a most positive way, particularly when it comes to body image.

?Kim’s contribution to beauty and fashion . . . is the fact that you don’t have to be super slim and very tall to be beautiful,? he said last year. ?Others tried, but she succeeded in giving other girls like herself confidence. And I admire her for that.?

Pop singer Demi Lovato has come out in praise of the reality star for the very same reason. Lovato has revealed that Kim’s curvaceous figure had an imperative influence on her body image as a young girl at a time when she was struggling with a serious eating disorder. Lovato’s idols were ultra-skinny, so vastly different from her own figure as an impressionable teen.

“When I was growing up, at the kind of age where your body starts changing, and you want to be cool, it was in that era of when very, very, very thin people were the popular people in Hollywood, so that’s what I had to look up to,” she said. The 23-year-old spoke frankly about her past battles with eating issues on the Ellen show and said her outlook changed for the better when Kim came on the scene.

“When the Kardashians came on the scene, that was the first time that I really associated curves with beauty, and it was just so new to me,” she said “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, that’s so cool!’ And even at a time when I was still struggling with food, I was able to look at Kim’s curves and be like, ‘I should really be proud of my curves.'”

And this newfound body confidence is what gave Lovato the guts to strip off for her daring Vanity Fair cover.

“Now there’s tons of beautiful, curvy women out there,” Lovato said. “But she made me feel more confident in my skin, and that made me be able to do that Vanity Fair shoot.”

Anyone that inspires young women to love the skin they are in is a winner in our book, so let’s give Kim credit where credit is due.
