The actress had been missing since last Wednesday. US authorities confirmed her body had been found on Monday evening
After days of searching, it ended in tragedy after missing actress Naya Rivera’s body was found on Monday.
Naya Rivera, who played Santana Lopez in Glee was just 33-years-old.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said that the actress went missing Wednesday after going boating in Lake Piru, California, with her 4-year-old son, Josey.
The 33-year-old’s boat was found drifting in the northern part of the lake, with her sleeping son on board.
After her son was found on the boat alone, authorities initiated a search for Rivera led by a team of divers. Investigators believed she drowned in a “tragic accident,” and the sheriff’s department noted on Monday morning via Twitter that a body had been found. On Monday, authorities reiterated they did not suspect foul play nor do they believe she purposely tried to hurt herself.
They said in what was only speculation at this point, they believed Rivera was swimming with her young son (who was wearing a life jacket) in the lake when their boat had begun to drift away.
Authorities said that Rivera had probably managed to get her young son back onto the boat but had got into difficulty before she could climb aboard after him. An adult life jacket was found aboard the rented boat.
An emergency call was made raising the alarm when Naya Rivera’s son was seen floating in the boat by himself and suspicions were raised when the rented boat was not returned on time.
A detailed autopsy is set to take place, with the sheriff’s department reiterating that they believe the actor’s death to have been accidental.
On social, friends and co-workers have paid tribute to the actress calling her death a “complete and utter tragedy.”
