Day Two of the IMAGE Beauty Festival saw even more top talent take to the stage. The Boots Stage and Samsung Theatre were jam-packed and here are some of our highlights from the day...
Months of planning, weeks of prep and two days of the best beauty fun in the city has finally come to a close, and we wish we could do it all over again. The IMAGE Beauty Festival was an amazing weekend of beauty tips, tricks, discussions and masterclasses - we had so many standout moments, it was almost impossible to whittle them down.
If you missed our Day One highlights, they're all waiting for you on IMAGE.ie. But now, it's time to take a look at our Sunday best bits.
The historical chats at Beauty Outside the Box
Kicking off the day in the Samsung Theatre was an amazing panel discussion with Andrea Horan as the host, where Head of Education at the National Gallery Sinead Rice, facial acupuncturist Amanda Nodell and hair colourist to the stars Anthony Ussher took to the stage.
The next hour was an amazing discussion around beauty throughout the ages, what defines beauty today and social media's affect on what we find attractive. With Sinead's endless anecdotes of beauty standards throughout history, Anthony's insights into modern beauty culture, and Amanda's insider info on traditional beauty methods, it was a facinating chat about the boundaries of beauty. As Sinead said, people may think we're too image-centric these days, but we've always been obsessed with beauty - just take a trip to the National Gallery to see the evidence.
All the tips and tricks from Paula Callan
The theme at the Paula Callan Masterclass at the Boots Beauty Stage was dewy, beautiful bridal makeup, with so many tips from one of the most in-demand artists in Ireland. Paula gave some great tips to the audience, and always advised staying true to your own style on your wedding day - it's not the time to experiment with a look you may not be comfortable in. A top tip for watery-eyed brides? "If my bride has trouble with her eyes streaming, I always get her to take an antihistamine on the morning of the big day"
The Patrick Ta Masterclass
The main event, the headliner of the festival, Patrick Ta took to the Samsung stage to give his sold-out masterclass to a super excited audience of fans. The theatre was completely packed, and attendees were ready for action, and totally invested in Patrick's innovative techniques and brilliant products. We found out all about his backstory, growing up in Arizona and moving to LA to make it big, and counting Gigi Hadid, Joan Smalls, the Kardashians, Chrissy Teigen and Rosie Huntington Whitely among his growing client list.
What it takes to build a beauty brand
One of the final events of the Beauty Festival on Sunday evening was the Building a Beauty chat with a stellar line-up - Darren Kennedy, presenter and founder of Kennedy & Co, Marissa Carter, founder of Carter Beauty and Cocoa Brown and Peigín Crowley, owner of Moss of the Isles. The trio have a wealth of knowledge about what it takes to start up a business in beauty, and the logistics and planning that goes into a major start-up like theirs.
With Marissa exclusively revealing that Cocoa Brown is launching in US chain Walmart in two weeks' time, we can't wait to see what else is in store for the panel - but as Peigín said on the night, "I'm a risk taker - I say yes now, and learn later".
