Meet Designers Jill Deering And Gillian Henderson Of Jill & Gill

The young creatives on our radar now are an inspiring mix of women determined to explore and enjoy their art. Claire O’Mahony meets these future makers.

JILL DEERING AND GILLIAN HENDERSON

Illustrator Jill Deering and printmaker Gillian Henderson make up the charmingly entitled studio Jill & Gill. They’ve been a team since 2015. “Neither can do what the other does, but together, we work collectively as one. Our creative practices may differ, but when we bring them together, things just flow.”

Their portfolio includes merchandise design for James Vincent McMorrow’s 2016 We Move tour (Jill toured with the singer/songwriter as part of his band) and a collaboration with multi-disciplinary artist Helen Devine, while their rainbow unicorns and Bosco prints are quite fabulous. “Dublin’s a tiny place overflowing with incredible Irish designers, artists, and talent; this alone is a huge inspiration to us. It’s this support which has given us the confidence to push ourselves.”

Their first solo exhibition, The Rare Bird, based on fashion icon Iris Apfel, runs in Dublin’s Fumbally Exchange March 30 to April 2.
