A brand new documentary about the House of Dior will air on British television next week and it comes at a perfect time; just as we prepare to nose-dive into New York Fashion Week. Here’s how you can see it.
Frédéric Tcheng’s Dior And I (which is on Netflix, FYI) followed the journey of designer Raf Simons during his short stint as creative director at the coveted House of Dior from 2014 to 2015. The short doc became an ode to iconic designer Christian Dior (and to a very tired and broken Raf crumbling under the pressure of the prestigious House), and now it’s kind of getting a sequel.
Titled ‘Inside Dior‘, the new documentary is broken into two parts. The first part is set to give fans a glimpse into life inside the House under the creative direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri as it prepares for the brands 70th anniversary, while the part two will show the lead-up to Chiuri’s inaugural show as creative director.
According to a spokesperson at Chanel 4, the new doc “provides a talking point for discussions about fashion and female identity and how that has changed since Dior launched in the 1940s.” Chiuri’s first collection certainly sparked discussion around these issues, with show notes referencing the first-ever female creative director’s “boldly feminine outlook” and t-shirts bearing the slogan “We Should All Be Feminists”.
Catch the first instalment of Inside Dior next Thursday, February 9th at 9pm on More 4.
And in case you need it, here’s a reminder of the dreamy Dior’s’ SS17 collection under Chiuri, shot by ELLE recently.
