These are the ‘Emily in Paris’ outfits we’d actually wear (and where to shop them!)

It’s the fashion that keeps us coming back for more. Well, that and Lucien Laviscount…

It divided the internet when it first premiered on Netflix last October and it’s continued doing so right up until the present day. From Golden Globes controversy to overplayed stereotypes and culture-deaf representation, Emily in Paris has not been without its critics… of which there are plenty.

In fact, many people’s issues stem from the leading lady herself; she’s loud and obnoxious, she doesn’t speak French, and frankly, she’s an absolutely terrible friend. I won’t spoil the story for you, but Emily’s character development only seems to bring her from bad to worse.

Love it or loathe it though, there’s no denying that the show has produced quite a few notable fashion moments in its time… but of course, this should come as no surprise, what with costume designer Patricia Field at its helm. The woman behind all of Sex and the City women’s enviable wardrobes, Field certainly knows how to capture an audience’s attention through clothes. We dislike the main protagonist and yet we keep coming back for more, such is her power.

From eye-grabbing accessories to statement hats and a very questionable pair of striped pantaloons; the fashion is reflective of the characters and while we probably wouldn’t wear any of Emily’s ensembles, they’re definite talking points. And the conversations aren’t set to stop anytime soon either as the show has just been renewed for not one, but two further seasons.

“Woke up early to give you some VERY exciting news,” Lily Collins shared with fans on Instagram yesterday. “Emily in Paris is back for Season 3… AND wait for it, Season 4!!!!! I can’t tell if Emily would love or hate this announcement outfit but she’d be screaming either way. Truly love you all, thanks so much for the incredible support. Seriously cannot wait for more. Merci Beaucoup!!”

The outfit in question? A pair of Emily in Paris PJs. Très ringarde, I think you’ll agree (if you know you know, you know?).

We’ve delved into the Emily in Paris wardrobe in light of the good (?) news and have picked out a few of our fave looks. Shop our edit of similar pieces below.

Checked blazer and red beret

Yes, it’s a cliché. Yes, we ate it up anyway. This outfit is arguably one of Emily’s most sane looks, and one I’d probably even wear myself? You can’t go wrong with a checked blazer and the pop of colour compliments the look perfectly.

Camille’s loafers

Loafers are très chic right now and Camille was clearly ahead of the curve with this look. Stylish but oh so comfortable too. How some of the characters manage to hobble around the cobbled streets of Paris in heels is beyond me.

Sylvie’s green dress

Where Emily’s style is characterised by clashing prints and textures, look-at-me accessories, and very out there colour combos, Sylvie’s wardrobe is quite the opposite. Think classic, tailored pieces that just exude confidence. This green dress is a particular favourite.

Mindy’s corset

While it’s unlikely we’ll have an occasion to wear such a statement piece to anytime soon, we can’t help be dream. Just look at this outfit! Mindy really pulled out all the stops in season two… perhaps she was influenced to excess-orise by her good pal Emily?
