Quilted padded duvet coats are going to get us through this winter, here are our favourite to buy today

by Holly O'Neill

We’re about to spend a lot more time outdoors. Wrap up from the outside world this winter in an enormous quilted duvet coat

While restrictions move around and restaurants scramble to add some sort of outdoor seating, it would seem like we’re about to spend a lot more time outdoors.

Eating outdoors is all well and lovely when you have a seaside view and an Aperol Spritz and sunshine but will become less picture perfect once the temperature drops and the rain kicks in.

If you spent this morning scraping ice off your car windows, in September, you’ll have come to the realisation that winter is coming and if we’re going to manage to do anything even remotely fun in the next few months, it’s going to be outdoors. I am going to handle this realisation as I do with most of my problems – by buying something new. Specifically, an enormous quilted duvet coat. There is always a sartorial solution.

It will be lovely. Our cheeks will be chapped but we’ll face the cold by being bundled up in cosy comfortable fashion heaven with a woolly beanie and something steaming in our hands. This winter, we’ll cocoon ourselves into these physical security blankets, swaddled away from bad news and stupid anti-masker tweets and rising cases.

Wrap up snuggly and warm in duvet outwear and make it more joyful by going with bold, vibrant colours. Don’t get tricked into thinking that because this is a practical coat, you need to do it in muted tones. If you’re going to wear a duvet outside, you might as well make it crazy. Go with yellow, orange, pink, anything to distract from the doom and gloom. If you’re not brave enough for electric neons, you can’t go wrong with military khaki, to double dose on that feeling of wearing armour from the outside world.
