Jennie McGinn: A week in my wardrobe

Jennie McGinn: A week in my wardrobe

by Sarah Finnan
26th May 2024

While her day job specialities are in email, e-commerce and social media, beyond that Jennie McGinn’s true passion is fashion. A staunch supporter of a good blazer, her outfits often include a pop of colour and of course, some element of Irish design. She shares a week in her wardrobe below.

I work for myself and spend my days running to meetings, speaking at events, commuting across the country and showing up for brand launches that I’m passionate about. I’d like to say I have a special wardrobe for work, but this is me. I believe a blazer solves everything, workwear should be fun and energetic and I’ll always be wearing at least one Irish designer – even if it’s an accessory or a piece of jewellery. I love supporting independent and contemporary designers and I prefer to invest in high-quality brands so I can pass pieces on to my kids in the future.

MONDAY

I was invited to speak on personal branding by The Club Women’s Network in Cork. I’ll always wear a pop of pink when I’m speaking if I can. These are some deep pink trousers from Rotate with an oversized blazer from Stella Nova and my recently purchased statement earrings from Irish brand Sómas. Slightly hidden from view is my pearl necklace from Sorcha O’Raghallaigh (fun fact, I had a Sorcha wedding dress)

TUESDAY

It was a super quick turnaround from speaking in Cork to being in Dublin the next morning for a Going for Growth session. I’m on a Starting Strong table with Marissa Carter as the lead and it is the best thing I have done for myself this year. Kept the same Rotate trousers and just threw on a different blazer. This was from a gorgeous Spanish brand called Uterque who unfortunately no longer exist.

WEDNESDAY

I dress the same for work as I do for fun – there’s no distinction. I think blazers are the secret workhorses of the wardrobe so I’ve built a collection from contemporary and independent brands. This black and white check is from a Polish brand called Aggi. Paired here with Spanx leggings (essential!) and chunky platforms from Ganni. The statement bag is from one of my favourite Irish designers, Natalie B Coleman.

THURSDAY

Meeting with a branding agency I work with called AAD on one of our gloriously hot days. This called for denim shorts, cowboy boots – and yes, a blazer. First outing for my molten gold August Night bag – a gift from my best friends for my 40th. Bedecked in lots of gold jewellery from Edge Only, Chupi, Tory Long, Sómas Studio and Fields. Picked up these gold chain-link Stella McCartney sunglasses in Kildare Village last year.

FRIDAY

I’ve been running an online course for the Irish Writers Centre for the last five weeks; as it’s remote, I’m usually only jazzy on top. But I had an evening event to rush to afterwards, so I’m wearing the suit trousers from my Uturque check suit, a cropped pink Rotate blazer and my outrageously high (and outrageously uncomfortable) Paris Texas pink leather boots – always a conversation starter

SATURDAY

Headed to an Act+Acre brunch in Wren Urban Nest on a mixed-bag-of-a-day weather-wise, so I had a “chuck on” dress (an oldie from Ganni), my cowboy boots and a bag from Sara Battaglia. I collect bags (invest in blazers and bags in my opinion) and I love anything slightly unusual.

SUNDAY

This is a dress from the Simone Rocha X H&M collab; I’m obsessed with Simone and was lucky to purchase a few pieces from the collection. White shirt underneath, slicked-back hair and my August Night – the talking point of the day.
