Traditional yet modern, Thatch Cottage is a rare find in Co. Cork.

Nestled on the outskirts of Millstreet town in Co. Cork, Thatch Cottage is a charming reminder of times gone by. A testament to the architectural beauty of the past, it’s been meticulously restored and lovingly cared for by current owners. Local craftsmen, skilled in traditional methods, were brought in to ensure every detail was authentic and the walls were carefully repaired using lime plaster.

Externally, the property is as traditional as they come. Inside, the decor is a harmonious blend of old and new. Original wooden beams have been restored, and an open hearth welcomes you inside, inviting you to stay a while.

The furnishings, though updated for comfort, respect the traditional style, and beautifully fit the rustic aesthetic of this wonderful Cork cottage.

Fitted with oil-fired central heating, along with its own well and septic tank, the accommodation spans approximately 86.9 sq.m and comprises a porch, sitting room, kitchen/dining room, utility, bathroom and three bedrooms.

A gravel path leads up to the front door, fashioned on the old-style half door with a diamond-shaped glass panel on the top half. This opens directly into the living room which features a solid timber polished floor and a vaulted ceiling with painted timber panelling and stained and exposed timber beams. A large open fire with raised hearth warms the room on cold days while a rustic timber mantle extends across the length of the chimney breast, providing shelving.

The first of three bedrooms can be found on the left-hand side, just off the living room. An old-style country door with a thumb latch opens into the room, where there is polished flooring and a vaulted ceiling with painted timber panelling and stained and exposed timber beams. Large windows to the front and rear allow natural light to flood in while in-built wardrobes provide storage. The other two bedrooms are much the same with polished flooring, vaulted ceilings and custom-built wardrobes.

Further inside is the open-plan kitchen/dining area. Bright and airy, highlights include a solid timber worktop, a Belfast sink and a fireplace with red brick surround with Stanley Range. French doors open onto the rear garden/patio area. The utility is located adjacent to this room and is plumbed for a washing machine.

Outside, there is a small, country-style garden to the front, partially wilded at present for the bees. There is a variety of flowering shrubs and long grasses along with a timber pergola and a lawn to the rear.

Currently on the market for €250,000, viewing is highly recommended and can be organised through OM2. In the meantime, you can take a tour of the characterful Thatch Cottage in our gallery below.
