Try A Trouser Suit This Season

Try A Trouser Suit This Season

I tried on a DKNY trouser suit this weekend, by chance really. I fell for the tweed pleated cropped pants instantly (perfect with heels, brogues or trainers) and had them paired with a gorgeous textured sleeveless knit when the store manager kindly dropped the matching jacket into my changing room. I threw it on, thinking it was probably too’matchy matchy for me – I prefer to mix up separates – but the whole look?felt unexpectedly right.

Traditional trouser suits are no longer associated with corporate dressing. Street style stars and creatives have appropriated the two piece and deconstructed it. Worn?with sweaters, and trainers, crazy prints and unexpected textures, the trouser suit has become an effortless throw-on that’s nonetheless tailored and smart.

Rather than being generic, it’s now the ideal way to express your personality and reflect your own unique’style. Choose from brocades, velvets, prints and languid silhouettes. The look for 2016 is definitely relaxed rather than formal. T-shirts and knits work really well underneath. If you’re opting for a shirt, wear it partly unbuttoned, with the cuffs hanging open and loose. If I was wearing a shirt with a trouser suit, I’d opt for trainers to firm up that dressed down feel.

Thinking of trying a trouser suit? Here are a few ideas on how to wear them from the stars of the street.

The formality of this double-breasted jacket is balanced by the overlong trouser legs and trainers.

The unconventional colour of this trouser suit takes it out of the realms of traditional corporate suiting.

This gorgeous raspberry pink trouser suit worn?with a vibrant ruffled shirt makes a bold statement, however the fluidity of the trousers and loosely worn jacket maintain’the modern, low-key vibe.

Choosing a bomber-style jacket rather than a blazer freshens up the whole look. Wearing the sleeves of your jacket rolled up is a great styling trick when you want to reinforce an urban, laid-back feel.
