The 2018 Golden Globes marked a critical shift in red carpet reporting and styling. On January 1st, Hollywoods most powerful and influential women joined together to unveil the Time’s Up initiative, in a bid to end sexual assault, abuse and harassment in the industry. In a form of sartorial protest, an all-black dress code was instated as the project’s first public display of retaliation against sexual assault.
Statement jewellery was an elegant and sophisticated way to add personality and versatility, and differing hemlines and silhouettes kept the red carpet fresh and appealing. The parade of black gowns didn’t look boring, it looked restrained and elegant. On what arguably should have been the dullest red carpet ever, each actor came together in solidarity for the movement and completely nailed it.
