Wide-leg trousers are my spring/summer failsafe. I’m pale-skinned (translucent you might say) and the only type of tanning lotion I can be bothered to apply is Garnier’s Summer Body moisturising lotion?with tan. It gives me a hint of a glow with minimum effort, which is exactly how I like my beauty routine (tanning mitts, latex gloves and tan-stained pyjamas all seems like an awful lot of mess and hard work – and every weekend?). But still I will never expose my legs in summer, unless I’m going for a swim. I haven’t worn a pair of shorts since I was about?ten, and the only summer dresses in my wardrobe are maxis (and thank goodness for them), though this season I’ll be opting for a Chloe-esque ankle grazer too. So my sartorial survival guide for this time of year is built mainly around palazzo pants, loose-leg linen trousers and culottes.
Although it’s not yet summer (by a long shot), once the days begin to lengthen and there’s a suggestion of warmth in’the sun, I like to loosen up my tailoring a little and ditch the skinny jeans.?These mustard wide-leg trousers from Jaeger are perfect. The high-waisted fit is sophisticated and smart, while the pockets add a cool laid-back feel.

These Whistles trousers offer a wonderfully modern take on tailoring. The soft blush side stripe gives them a cool athleisure vibe, but the wide leg and cropped cut makes them office appropriate too. These are one of my favourite pairs on the high street now.
