Eight vinyl coats to get you ahead of the game

Eight vinyl coats to get you ahead of the game

Welcome to the future. It’s quite literally clear that fashion’s latest obsession is dressing rather Matrix-esque. Introducing all things shiny and plastic, the vinyl coat is AW18’s statement trend; so catch-up to get ahead. Also known as PVC or patent leather, this high-shine fabric is surprisingly practical in Ireland’s predictable rainy weather.

From Fendi’s monogram designs and Simone Rocha’s bright offerings, vinyl has been given a daring edge. Street style stars have experimented with layering shiny overcoats on top of faux fur; and I’m kinda obsessed. I’ll be honest, I’m not for vinyl anything and everything; but please, you do you. Vinyl pants have, and always will be, a no from me. I can’t pull off everything, and these kinda pants is one of them. But vinyl coats? Well, I’m all over that. So I’m grateful trench coats are the most popular reinvention of this synthetic fabric. If plastic pants aren’t your forte either, you’re probably wondering how to nail this tricky trend in your everyday life. I suggest pairing yours with a knitted turtleneck for some killer contrast, or overlay a checked wool coat by adding a transparent cover. What I love about vinyl is that it creates stylish raincoats, and what’s autumn without a raincoat, and s.t.y.l.e of course? Something waterproof is essential in our climate. Don’t you just love Irish weather? We’re blessed, really.

If you’re ready to take on this daring trend, from blue vinyl to clear PVC, you won’t fail to make a statement. This season’s newest uniform is worth investing in as this Matrix-inspired trend peeks into the future. There’s not many options in stores just yet, but I’ve sussed out some good finds.
