Anklets are the new shoe trend you’ll be wearing all summer

Anklets are the new shoe trend you’ll be wearing all summer

Here’s how to dip your toe into this trend — pun intended —  without breaking the bank

I’m going to wager a bet that it’s been more than a minute since your feet have properly seen daylight (thank you, Storms Ciara, Denis and co.) But warmer days are on the horizon, and with that you can finally say “brb” to your lug-sole boots in favour of lighter, fancier footwear.

Shoes with chains attached have been doing the rounds on many major catwalks during recent seasons. Not least, the divisive mesh pumps by Bottega Veneta, with their delicate gold anklet that fastens around the ankle, which will set you back a cool €700 — if you can get your hands on the sold-out style, that is.

Following Daniel Lee’s nod, heeled sandals at Miu Miu and ballet pumps at Stella McCartney suddenly came adorned with built-in anklets, while stilettos by Giuseppe Zanotti and Saint Laurent boasted blinged out rhinestone ankle straps.

For Autumn/Winter 2020, designers further ran with the idea. Chunky boots at Michael Kors and Vivienne Hu stomped along the runways with silver chains swishing off them, and Ulla Johnson coiled slivers of gold around straps on sandals.

Rather than shelling out triple figures for a new pair of ‘must haves’ — there’s a far simpler way to keep up with the crowd. Enter: the humble anklet, which can instantly add an on-trend edge to flats, loafers, mules and your tried-and-tested sandals from last year.

Now, time to go book a pedi before the big reveal.

Shop these five timeless styles now:

Jules Smith Bling Anklet, €46.28 from Shopbop.com

Gold Chunky Chain Anklet, €6 from Pretty Little Thing

Alighieri The Tallisman Anklet, €240 from Net A Porter

8 Other Reasons Rihanna Anklet, €22.24 from Revolve

Orelia Gold-Plated Anklet, €20.74 from ASOS
