Metallics, silver sequins and some serious hardware characterised the elaborate and often fantastical outfits (see Claire Danes in her fiver-optic Zac Posen dress!) at the opening of “Manus x Machina: In An Age Of Technology” Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last night. Unlike the Academy Awards, where the fashion is always elegant and tasteful, the Met Gala offers an opportunity to be a little more?adventurous, even avant-garde. Who got it right on the night? Here’s the IMAGE edit of the best and worst-dressed of the night ?
BEST DRESSED
Kate Bosworth looked like a Grecian goddess in this silver and sheer embellished gown. The laurel-style hair clips finish the look to perfection.
Alex Chung look literally too cool for school in this fabulous sequinned pant suit and ankle-strap heels. Stunning.
Naomi Watts never gets it wrong. This foil-like fabric isn’t the easiest to wear, but the simplicity of the cut and the elegant black sash make it work.
Lily-Rose Depp looks exquisite in this white embellished gown and textured jacket. The length and fit suit her petite figure beautifully and keep the look youthful.
Actress Zendaya looks absolutely other-worldly in this beautiful cold-shoulder gown. Perfection.
Zoey Deutch looks like an English country garden in this floral gown, but in a good way.
Only Alicia Vikander could get away with this number.?
Sienna Miller looks sexy and chic in this gold strapless gown.
WORST DRESSEDKim looks too, well, Kardashian in this suit of armour-style dress.
This dress does nothing for Jennifer Connelly’s beautiful figure. I think she’s missed the mark with the utilitarian boots, which combined with the asymmetric hem are not flattering.
This dress is much too lap dancer-like on Lisa Maria Falcone.
Too green. Too feathered. Too much. Allison Sarofim scores a miss this time.
It may be a Costume Gala, but Sarah Jessica Parker’s outfit is much too costumy. I like the oversized chiffon cuffs, but that’s about it.
Without the cape, this outfit might have stood a chance. As it is, the whole look on Sofia Sanchez de Betak is much too Marie Antoinette.
Really Madonna??!
Could this be the beautiful Solange Knowles? Struck down with yellow fever, she needs to go home and get well.
