Afternoon Tea Skirts

By IMAGE
21st Jun 2014

Indulge your inner Grace Kelly with a sumptuous full skirt this Summer. The perfect wardrobe staple for either formal or casual events, the tea-length skirt can be dressed up for weddings or Lady’s days or used to add some lady-like prettiness to a casual day or night out by teaming with a t-shirt or crop top to give it an edge.

This classic 50’s A-line shape came to fruition in Dior’s La Coralle Collection in order to celebrate Europe and America’s new-found prosperity and femininity in the post world war two years. Designed to look like an upturned flower, the New Look became the signature style of the 50’s with everyone from Audrey Hepburn to Grace Kelly leading the way in making the full skirt a wardrobe staple. Feminine yet conservative, it sways elegantly with movement and sinches in at the waste, emphasizing the bust and has remained a signifier of the ultra-feminine look.

Thus, this Summer, Dior are reviving their classic tea skirt, featuring it in stunning metallic prints in their s/s14 collection.? The feminine look has also been featuresd by other designers such as Chanel, Alice and Olivia and Roksanda Illincic and Eliy Wickstead. Tea skirts are also popping up on the high street in Miss Selfridge, Topshop and Oasis.

We here at Image are head over heels with this lady-like Summer trend and be it a day at the races or a night on the town, or even a casual day look with a t-shirt and pumps, the full skirt will keep you looking elegant and chic all Summer long.
