3 Cool Brands You Should Know About

Australian brand Ellery is part of the Brown Thomas AW16 buy for the first time this year. Once an under-the-radar cult favourite?of the fashion elite, the brand has become a global success story, with a presence on major online retail sites such as?Matches Fashion, Far Fetch and Net-A-Porter. There’s a hint of flamboyance to the pieces – fluted finishes, architectural detailing, asymmetric cuts – but the overall look is cool and laid-back.

Columbian designer Johanna Ortiz draws on her heritage incorporating cascading Latin-inspired ruffles into many of her pieces. Romantic yes, but also paired back in places and totally modern. Lots of cold-shoulder detailing and asymmetric cuts add to the directional feel of this label. Check it out at net-a-porter.com.

Monse showed its first collection at New York fashion week last September and has already been worn by Amal Clooney and Sarah Jessica Parker. Founders Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia both worked for Oscar de la Renta before launching their own label, which they describe as “bold and feminine”.?Deconstructed shirts and relaxed separates define the brand. Cool and contemporary, these are the modern woman’s new basics.
