10 oversized blazers to take you from summer to autumn with ease

10 oversized blazers to take you from summer to autumn with ease

Yes, we know it’s only August but we are already thinking about our autumn wardrobes and oversized blazers will play a key part. Here’s why you should invest now.

Please don’t get annoyed with me, but once August hits, my mind goes into autumn dressing overdrive. I am not much of a summer lover when it comes to fashion because having big boobs can hinder you in many ways. Thin straps are everywhere, meaning my bra does a strap peek-a-boo just about all of the time. Strapless or off-the-shoulder numbers are usually a no go and even the ever-popular puff sleeve dresses usually leave my lingerie on show.

When the weather finally begins to get colder, I come into my own and my collection of jackets get its much-deserved outing. However, with the mixed summer we’ve had so far, some of my prized possessions got an early outing.

Oversized blazers are a godsend and this summer they’ve saved me from the unexpected chill in the evenings. Effortlessly chic, they are the epitome of that ‘throw-on-and-out-the-door ideal’ that so many of us try to emulate. No longer just one half of a suit, blazers are a wardrobe staple in their own right. The joy of blazers is they go with everything and this is no exaggeration. They complement dresses, midi skirts, jeans, and even bicycle shorts.

The word oversized can sometimes create a sense of fear. Many believe the exaggerated shape will drown them, but the key is structure. Look out for shoulder pads, clean lines and quality fabrics, while always making sure the rest of your outfit is streamlined and straight. Slip dresses and skirt work beautifully underneath, as do straight leg jeans and a plain T-shirt.

More importantly, a blazer is a forever piece. Don’t be afraid to splurge a little bit extra on quality. Once you purchase a true gem, you will never want to let it go. The high street has an array of options with & Other Stories and Asos being the standouts, while Totême does exquisite pieces in classic Scandanavian simplicity at a higher price point.

And with the falling of leaves only weeks away, now is the perfect time to invest in a blazer. I promise you won’t regret it.
