This low-maintenance hairstyle is taking Paris Fashion Week by storm

This is how the French do a messy bun.

This SS20, at Moschino, Victoria Beckham, Longchamp, Prada and Proenza Schouler and more, models kept a low profile, with the most low-maintenance look: centre partings and ponytails pinned, tucked and slicked into chignons, placed low at the nape of the neck and entirely devoid of flyaway hairs. Also, during the past month of AW20 shows, low buns, low ponytails and centre partings have taken, ahem, centre stage at Carolina Herrera, Kate Spade, Longchamp, Adeam, Tory Burch, Self Portrait, Tibi, Brandon Maxwell and more.

Scrolling through the street style imagery at Paris Fashion Week, it seems the look has transcended the runway and made it’s way to reality – every second shot is a Parisian influencer or editor with her hair middle-parted, sleek and scraped back. Fortunately, the ultimate low-maintenance hairstyle is only minutes away. But how do you get the look right, without looking like a Founding Father?

There are a few different approaches. First, the Rosie Huntington-Whiteley method, which she shared in her beach wave tutorial; she uses a tail comb from the centre of her nose and up into the hairline to create a dead straight centre parting.

Or, try it the easy way with legendary hairdresser Sam McKnight’s approach. “Make a centre parting by brushing the hair back and letting it fall naturally to each side,” says McKnight. “This will give your parting a soft, natural look.”
