Tangerine dream: you’re going to see a lot of orange this season

Tangerine dream: you’re going to see a lot of orange this season

Reach into your pencil case, because your neon orange highlighter is the shade of the summer

It’s time for a Tequila Sunrise, and we don’t mean the alcoholic kind. Tropical, joyful shades of orange — from tangerine to peach and salamander — brightened up the runways for Spring/Summer 2020, giving us ample reasons to look forward to the warmer months around the corner.

The hue has peppered countless collections in recent seasons, popping up at runway outings by Marni, Prada, Emilia Wickstead, Rejina Pyo and Moschino — to name but a few. And thanks to Simon Porte Jacquemus, slinky, sexy body-hugging little orange dresses have become the first word in dressing for vacations.

If you needed any more proof that the colour is in, at Tom Ford’s much-talked-about recent New York Fashion Week show in, err… Los Angeles, a Coachella-ready billowing orange kaftan was a major talking point in the California cool-inspired collection.

Naturally, look-at-me orange is going down a treat among Instagram’s most daring style stars. For bonus points, they’re already clashing the colour with vibrant fuchsia or sky blue, or mixing it in with copper and rust tones.

Ready to take the trend one step further? Why not mix together clashing textures like satin, jersey, leather — and what the heck, even feathers like The Attico’s Gilda Ambrosio — for an outfit that will certainly command attention.
