Over Thursday evening, July 13 and all day Saturday, July 15, Boots, in association with IMAGE Magazine, will present a calendar of drop-in sessions, interviews, makeovers and meet and greets.

Ahead of?the Boots Summer Beauty Weekender, we caught up with make-up artist and Saturday’s act,?Ken Boylan.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST FALL IN LOVE WITH BEAUTY?

About 150 years ago or so it feels sometimes! I was in Drama College many, many years ago and part of the course was how to do your makeup and wigs etc. I guess it was then that I realised the power of makeup and how it can change a face. When I started doing makeup on shoots or shows I realized how important it is to get the overall effect with the hair, clothes and the model etc, and thankfully I am still in love with most of the makeup industry.

WHAT’S THE KEY TO MAKING YOUR MAKE-UP LAST ALL DAY?

Less is more! Less moisturiser in the morning before you put on your face, most women use too much and find their makeup only stays on until lunch-time and then slips off. If you use less moisturiser you will find it stays on longer and a good primer helps too! Pressed powder also will help you through the day, freshen up your makeup and keep the really high shine away.

WHAT TRENDS SHOULD WE BE LOOKING AT FOR SUMMER?

It is always a hard thing for me to answer. I think you should wear makeup that suits you and your face and lifestyle. It is always good to try something new like a new lipstick colour, eyeshadow combo, blush or a new summer foundation – ?but I think it is important that it is good on your face, so if its a trend and it is not good on you, then don’t do it! I am also a sucker for a shiny face! Not sweaty but shiny, I think it can make you look younger. I like pastels on the eyes; soft lilacs and greens are lovely but can be hard to wear. And it is summer, so show off your skin!

WHAT BEAUTY TRICK CAN ELEVATE YOUR LOOK?

Knowing how to do a good liquid liner is really important! Don’t wear it out until you have it right on your eye. And knowing how to put lashes on your eyes! Individuals work best and the great thing is you can take them off at the end of the night! I don’t know how girls wear the ones that stay on for ages. I love a good rub of my eyes at the end of the day!

WHO ARE YOUR BEAUTY ICONS IN 2017?

Ellie Balfe, always love her look. Kate Blanchett exudes good taste and style. Ruby Rose, I really like her looks – ?young and tailored. Tilda Swinton, too, I love that she doesn’t give a toss what anyone thinks. Lisa Fitzpatrick always looks good no matter what she’s up to!?
