5 of the best heat protection products according to Irish hair stylists

Looking for heat protection products that work? A range of Irish hairstylists tell us their favourites

As a nation, we love our hair straighteners, our hair curlers and our heated rollers. Yes, our hair looks perfectly coiffed, but in doing so we can do some pretty irreparable damage to our locks.

Heat protection products are a vital component in lessening the effects of these heat tools.

A heat protectant product is one which adds moisture to the hair, while also creating a barrier to reduce further moisture loss; protecting the hair shaft while using heat tools. With so many of these products now on the market, it’s difficult to decipher which ones are worth the money and actually work.

Thankfully, we found a range of hair experts to lend us their favourites; meaning you’ll get more bang for your buck and protect your hair all at once.

HEATED.DEFENCE by Kevin Murphy

€24, from Kevin Murphy

Hairstylist Thiago Carvalho from Maven hair salon told us this protectant is his top choice, saying “it’s light, and like any Kevin Murphy product, it has a beautiful scent.”

label.m Blow Out Spray

€7.75, from All Beauty

Clionadh Cremin of Hillary Salon in Ranelagh says this is her go-to spray before blow dries, telling us, “it protects the hair from heat styling, but it also has enviro-shield in it which adds a lovely shine to the hair.”

Kérastase Discipline Fluidissime Spray

€27.10 at Millies

Clionadh also swears by this multitasking heat protectant spray, adding that it’s a regular in her kit. “It’s a really good hair protector while helping to strengthen and repair your hair,” she says.

Kérastase Ciment Thermique

€25.50 at Peter Mark

Hannah Carroll, hairstylist at Dylan Bradshaw, believes this is best heat protectant for wet hair. “This is a protein-based heat protector that re-activates with heat for 72 hours, up to 210 degrees; meaning you can restyle your hair using heat and the hair will still be protected.”

L’Oreal Tech Ni Art Constructor

€18 at Feel Unique

For styling hair, Hannah believes this product is a saviour: “Not only does this add a protective layer for heat up to 210 degrees, but it is also lightweight and gives mirror shine”.
