7 Essential Skin Care Products To Use During The Cold Spell

With the so-called ‘Beast from the East’ ready to strike the country, we’ve got to look after our skin. Freezing winds and snow are expected to last throughout the week, all of which can dry out your skin, causing painful cracked lips and hands. The Arctic weather won’t be the only thing wreaking havoc on your visage – so too will artificial heat sources in your home and office. Some heaters can suck all the moisture out of the air – pulling the moisture from your face in the process. However, there are lots of products you can use to protect yourself. Here are 10 of our favourites:

Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Water Gel Concentrate 48ml, €45

This oil-free and fragrance-free water gel is suitable for all skin types. It hydrates thirsty skin by 179% and can keep the skin moist for up to 24 hours. Water-binding ingredients, including hyaluronic acid fragments and activated aloe water will leave your skin feeling plump no matter what the weather.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 30ml, STG £5.90

In its purest form, hyaluronic acid can hold 1,000 times its own weight in water, so when applied to your face the moisture lasts all day long. This oil-free and purse-friendly treatment penetrates deep into the skin’s layers to keep it nourished throughout the cold-spell. Simply apply a few drops to your face in the morning and evening before cream. It’s currently available to order online from all good UK beauty sites.

Bobbi Brown Skin Moisture Solution No. 86 – Intense Rehydration Compound 14ml, €35

Similar to The Ordinary hyaluronic acid product above, this Bobbi Brown formula quenches severely parched and uncomfortable skin. This is particularly good for skin that’s been dried out from artificial heat as it binds moisture to the skin’s surface.

Clarins SOS Refreshing Hydration Mask, €38

This moisturising mask has been described by many as a ‘bath for thirsty skin’. Its refreshing gel-cream formula delves deep into your skin’s layers to leave it feeling supple, smooth and healthy. Simply leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing.

La Mer Lip Balm, €60

The lips are arguably the most delicate part of the face, and without a trusty lip care product, they’re practically defenseless against the cold. This La Mer lip balm is infused with marine extracts, botanicals and vitamins to keep your pout nice and healthy. It helps to repair sore, chapped lips as well as protecting them from further damage.

MAC Lip Scrubtious, €15.50

If your lips have already succumbed to the harsh weather this week, give this MAC lip scrub a go. The sugar-based exfoliator gently buffs away dry and flaky skin. Its formula contains hydrating and nourishing conditioners, so you’ll be left with soft, supple lips that are ready for moisturiser or lip balm.

NAILS INC Thirsty Hands Cream, €18

Enriched with water lily flower extract, Vitamin B5 and argan oil, this moisturising hand cream leaves skin soft and hydrated. It’s easily absorbed, meaning the essential oils will penetrate your skin’s surface to protect it from dryness with a non-greasy feel.
