Five makeup artists share the best advice they’ve ever been given

Calling all beauty enthusiasts — something truly beautiful is launching at IMAGE Publications. 2019 will see the very first IMAGE Beauty Festival take place in Dublin city, with every cleanser, curler, concealer and colour you could possibly dream of. With speakers, demonstrations, tutorials and plenty of products, this will be like nothing the Irish beauty scene has seen before. Stay tuned for more information on IMAGE.ie.

Whether it’s how to sculpt the perfect brow, or where to find the right red lippy, professional make-up artists always have the top tips. But who advises the advisor? We went straight to the source and asked five of Ireland’s favourite make-up artists (and nominees earlier this year in our IMAGE Business of Beauty Awards) the best make-up advice they’ve ever received.

Aidan Corcoran at Brown Thomas says:

“Clean up! Cotton buds are your best friend. There’s nothing a cotton bud can’t do at the end of a make-up application to shape and clean up the skin!”

Emma Farrell at EF Creative Studios says:

“Less is more! When creating a make-up look, you need to ensure you choose a key focus area. If you are going for a strong lip, don’t do a heavy, dark, smokey eye (and vice versa)!”

Leanne Nugent at Polish says:

“The best advice I’ve ever received is to wear what makes me look and feel good – not necessarily what’s on trend. You wouldn’t wear a dress that didn’t fit because it was ‘in’ this season!”

Lyndsey Cavanagh at The Hive says:

“The best make-up advice I’ve ever been given is to always feel beautiful sans make-up.”

Michelle Kinsella at Dylan Bradshaw says:

“Enhance what your client already has, don’t mask it! We are all beautiful – different yes – but why would we all want to look the same? Enhancing someone’s individual beauty is what I love doing!”
