What to do if you feel like you’re on the verge of burnout

What to do if you feel like you’re on the verge of burnout

Do you find yourself inexplicably tired, even though you haven't even gotten dressed, never mind left the house?

Living and working in the same space, looking after pets, parents and loved ones, managing the forever growing workload, trying to keep upbeat and positive all the time as well as trying to eat healthily and exercise so you don’t feel guilty all day every day… when is enough, enough?

Do this with me right now, place your hands on your heart, close your eyes and breathe in and out through your nose for ten deep breaths. While doing this, repeat the following in your mind three times; “I am doing the best I can, I am enough”.

Functioning on autopilot is not good enough anymore. If this past year has taught us anything, it is the value of our health and wellbeing. If you are drawn to these words there must be a message in here for you somewhere.

So, let me ask you; where are you losing energy? It’s time to become aware of the things that you do that are not serving you anymore. Grab a pen and paper and state all of the things you do that are not adding value to your life any more such as the countless scrolling through social media instead of having a bath. Watching the same series on Netflix on repeat instead of giving your body and energy what it needs to refuel.

Now don’t get me wrong, if scrolling through social media and watching Netflix brings you joy then by all means keep doing it. The purpose of this exercise is to identify the habits that you have created that are not fulfilling to you, yet you do them anyway. When you recognise this pattern of behaviour that is lowering your energy, it allows you to do something about it by adding in an activity that will bring you joy.

If you have been feeling overwhelmed with the sheer number of things on your to-do list then the key to realigning your energy is awareness. When you change your attention, you change your attraction. When you switch your focus from what is draining your energy to what will fuel your energy, your mood will shift, your outlook will alter and you ultimately will feel lighter and in true alignment with yourself. Why? Because you have finally made yourself a priority.

If you are on the verge of burnout, it is time to make yourself a priority. You are worthy of self-love, you are enough. You are worthy of following your heart and doing what lights you up, you are enough. You are worthy. You are enough.

Place your hands on your heart once more as you close your eyes and consciously breathe for 10 deep breaths as you repeat in your mind after me; “I am doing the best I can, I am enough.”
