Beyond the Pale

Your definitive festival packing checklist

If you're camping at a festival this summer, here are some crucial essentials and some more niche extras that will make your weekend far more enjoyable.

The basics

Let’s get the big four out of the way fast — tent, sleeping bag, camping chair, and portable charger. Once you’ve got these few essentials with you, you’ll be able to get by with a little help from some friends until home time. A sturdy bag is also essential, and in this endeavour, you cannot beat a McWilliam Holdall.

Medicine cabinet, sleep and skincare

You’ll want to pack all your go-to painkillers and decongestants—Solpadeine, Dioralyte, and the likes—but you’ll also want to stock up on a tube of all-important hydration tablets. Bring along some fly spray, a torch for inside your tent, ear plugs, and some detangling spray for your hair.

Must-haves come rain or shine

Irish festivals call for a heightened level of prep, so you better be ready for any eventuality when it comes to the weather. Given that a lot of festivals are gone paperless, you’ll want to make sure your phone remains safe throughout, and a wearable lanyard and screen protector will give you that peace of mind.
