Christy leads the pack as 2026 IFTA nominations are revealed

by Edaein OConnell
20th Jan 2026

The 2026 IFTA nominations have been announced, with Christy and Saipan leading the way - here is the full shortlist.

Ireland’s film and television talent once again steps into the spotlight as the Irish Film & Television Academy unveils the nominations for the 2026 IFTA Awards.

Spanning 29 film and drama categories, the nominees capture a moment when Irish storytelling continues to command international attention. The past few years have marked a generational run for the industry, from career-defining performances by the likes of Cillian Murphy and Jessie Buckley to the quiet, resonant power of Irish-language storytelling in An Cailín Ciúin.

This year’s shortlist builds on that momentum with nominations for Buckley and her screen partner, Paul Mescal. It offers a vivid showcase of the creative ambition and craft shaping Ireland’s screen culture today.

In numbers, Christy leads the film categories this year with 14 nominations. Close behind is Saipan, which secures 12 nominations, while Richard Linklater’s Irish-shot Blue Moon receives 8 nominations.

What a superb lineup of nominees,” Academy CEO Áine Moriarty says. “This incredible showcase of work reinforces the fact that Irish talent is truly amongst the best in the world, working both in front and behind the camera across the globe. We look forward to rewarding their work and achievements at the Ceremony on February 20th.

Here is the full list of nominees.
