The women of ‘Desperate Housewives’ and Wisteria Lane have nothing on the picturesque Wisteria Cottage in Co Kerry.

A quaint two-bedroom property with expansive country views over Roughty Valley, Wisteria Cottage encompasses all the best of life in The Kingdom.

Dating back to the early 1900s, the cottage was extensively renovated by its current owners in 2000. Modernised to reflect the times with a new extension added on to the old outhouse, the property still maintains many of its original features – including its natural stone walls, deep window sills, high ceilings and timber beams.

Inside, the entrance hall is located off the kitchen/dining room and the living room. Wooden floors continue throughout much of the house with colourful rugs and other soft furnishings bringing warmth and personality to each room.

The living area is a bright, cosy room with a vaulted ceiling and a large skylight that lets sunshine flood in during the day. A wood-burning stove sits in a handsome stone fireplace topped with a wooden mantle.

The open-plan kitchen/dining room is the real heart of the home. White wooden cabinets line the walls in the kitchen with outer standout features including a Belfast sink and wooden countertop, a Zanussi oven, Hoover gas hob, Logik fridge/freezer and Bosch dishwasher. Sliding glass doors lead to the south-facing terrace, which is the best place to enjoy the morning to late afternoon sun.

Both bedrooms are comfortable double rooms with views overlooking the garden. Sturdy wooden chests provide storage in each room, with wooden shelving also to be found in one room. The family bathroom can be found elsewhere in the house. White tiles have been fitted on the walls in this room which also has a Mira electric shower.

The exterior of the house is just as beautiful as the interior, with one side of the property bordered by a gorgeous spread of bright purple wisteria. The garden itself spans 0.202 acres and is maintained to a very high degree. A variety of different shrubs and trees can be found throughout, including cherry blossoms, peony, montbretia and hellebores.

Located within 800 metres of Kilgarvan Village and school and 200 metres of a preschool and creche, Wisteria Cottage is also conveniently close to Kenmare town which can be reached within 10km.

Take a look inside the charming Wisteria Cottage, which is on sale through Sherry FitzGerald Daly, in our gallery below.
