Salma Hayek’s pet owl threw up on Harry Styles’ hair, and we have so many questions

On The Ellen Show this week, actor Salma Hayek told a bizarre story that only raises more questions than it answers. It centres around her pet owl, Kering, which is an odd enough statement in and of itself, but I promise you it gets weirder. 

Hayek shared that an “ important celebrity”, who she later named as Harry Styles, was at her house, and was excited to meet Kering. “He was really excited about the owl, and was hoping that the owl would go on his head”.

Styles got what he wanted and more, however, as Kering not only landed in his hair, but proceeded to regurgitate a ball of fur from what she had eaten earlier. “He was OK, he was kind of cool. He didn’t scream,” Hayek added.

Apparently Kering is a rescue owl, which I would love more details on. Surely if rescue centres can’t release an animal into the wild, they don’t just offer them up to celebrities as pets? 

Also: are owls really pets? Hayek admitted that she finds owl droppings on her furniture from time to time, and although she doesn’t like it, she has to feed her mice (she checked if the owl could be vegetarian: it can’t).

Hayek also shared that she sometimes forgets to tell people about Kering, which can lead to them getting quite a fright as she swoops by. She lets Kering stay in her bedroom when her husband isn’t home, although she says that sometimes in the middle of the night, Kering mistakes her toes for mice, which sounds pretty unpleasant.

Owl care questions aside, Marvel fans have been paying attention to the story for a different reason. Many believe that this confirmation that the two actors were hanging out proves a rumour that Styles will appear in Chloé Zhao’s upcoming Marvel film Eternals. 

Hayek plays the character Ajak in the film, and while it hasn’t been confirmed, there has been speculation that Styles will play Starfox, the brother of the warlord Thanos who has caused chaos in previous Marvel films.
