Britney Spears won’t perform again while her father controls her life

Britney Spears won’t perform again while her father controls her life

She also hit back at her sister and "so-called support system" in a new Instagram post explaining why she’s on a touring hiatus.

“This conservatorship killed my dreams,” she said in a lengthy post on Instagram. “So all I have is hope.”
Currently, Jamie Spears has the final say over his daughter’s $60m estate under a legal conservatorship in place since 2008, which the singer is battling to have ended after over a decade.

Over the last number of weeks, Britney has made a number of devastating claims, alleging that those meant to protect her have actually been abusing her.

Among other things, she alleges she was forced to take lithium after publicly announcing she was taking a break from live performing, and being under watch even while she gets changed. She has repeatedly insisted she isn’t just under “control” by a conservatorship — she is apparently forbidden from doing anything of her choosing in life, getting married, driving in a car with her boyfriend, everything from the life-altering to the completely mundane such as painting her kitchen cabinets.

“I’m not gonna be performing on any stages anytime soon with my dad handling what I wear, say, do, or think,” Britney, who has not performed in public since late 2018, wrote in the post.

“I’d much rather share videos YES from my living room instead of onstage in Vegas… I’m not gonna put on heavy makeup and try try try on stage again and not be able to do the real deal with remixes of my songs for years.”

In the message, Britney also said she “did not like the way” documentaries about her life bring up “humiliating moments from the past”, adding: “I’m way past all that and have been for a long time.”

This was clearly in reference to Framing Britney Spears – a documentary on the star’s life and struggles in the public eye – which was nominated for two Emmy awards this week.

She also called out her sister in the post, further putting distance between Jamie Lynn’s version of events. “I don’t like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes… My so-called support system hurt me deeply,” she continued.

Spears’ unfiltered post comes a few days after judge Brenda Penny gave Spears permission to choose a new attorney to represent her – seen as a huge step forward in her fight for freedom.
