A ‘Bennifer’ reunion? Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck holiday together 17 years after split

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive as multiple reports confirm the original power couple have reunited for a week-long vacation together.

Is it wrong to invest so much in celebrity couples? Yes. But we sure as heck still do it. Look at Britney and Justin. Jen and Brad. Decades later we still talk about the impact such powerful celebrity pairs had on the pop culture landscape.

And, without question, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck fit into that category. We know the story: She a beautiful singer and actress, met and began dating him, an equally beautiful director and actor, at what was the start of the heightened celebrity-tabloid culture. It was 2002, they met while filming Gigli and they became engaged late that year.

The media began to refer to them as Bennifer and they became a prominent supercouple in the media and popular culture. The term ‘Bennifer’ became a popular term, which was eventually entered into urban dictionaries. The name blend started the trend of other celebrity couples being referred to by the combination of their first names. He appeared in her iconic Jenny From The Block music video and also gave her an incredible pink-diamond engagement ring, worth over $1 million.

The day before their wedding in 2003, the couple called off their engagement, citing the tabloid pressure as one of the reasons at the time, before they eventually split in 2004.

In 2014, Jennifer said on the Today show the breakup was probably her “first big heartbreak.” However, looking back a year later,  said had no regrets about their relationship.

“I just feel like everything is part of your story and your journey and is meant to be and helps you grow if you’re willing to look at it,” she said, “and I’m willing to look.”

A reunion (of sorts)

Fast forward 17 years later and the pair have reunited… at least to holiday together.

“They have been in touch here and there throughout the years,” a source told E! News, adding the duo reunited after she returned from filming in the Dominican Republic. “Ben reached out to her to see how she was doing and they had dinner together a few times within this last month. It’s natural between them.. They picked up where they last left off and are enjoying each other’s company right now.”

The words of Busy Phillips, really sum it up:

Affleck was photographed with a military-style backpack in tow, as he exited a white Escalade SUV that reportedly belongs to Lopez who was seen sitting in the same white SUV sporting some aviator sunglasses in other photos from the same day.

“They have spent time together in L.A. over the past week,” another source told People about the meetups. “They have a lot of love for each other. They have always admired each other.”

We can only wait and see, but the good news would be most welcome.
