Back to school vibes: your guide to Dublin this weekend

While it’s sad that we are well and truly out of the summer sun this week, we’re excited about those September, new start, back-to-school vibes again. Dublin this weekend truly reflects the mood of the moment, with plenty of arts, discussions and science events to stimulate your brain. On Saturday: Be a drama queen at Dublin Fringe

From Saturday, the Dublin Fringe Festival returns to the city, with the promise of two weeks of fabulous events. Supporting the creation and development of Ireland’s new and emerging talent, Fringe is indispensable in keeping the city’s creative spirit alive, and on Saturday, no less than 15 new shows and dramas are taking place across the city. Check out their website and start marking your calendar.

On Saturday: Get the last of your Summer Lovin’ at Movies on the Lawn

The final Movies on the Lawn takes place at Malahide Castle this weekend, so you can lament the end of a glorious summer in style. Plus, Sandy and Danny provide some great inspiration for your Halloween costume. Win-win.

On Sunday: Pick a side in the All-Ireland Camogie Final at Croke Park

Granted, this isn’t strictly a ‘Dublin’ event since Dublin aren’t playing, but if you have family ties in either Cork or Kilkenny, now’s the time to get back to your roots. The women’s senior teams take to the pitch at 4:15 pm but you can catch the Premier Junior and Intermediate finals earlier in the day too. Women’s sports deserve an awful lot more support and recognition, so this is a perfect Sunday activity to let your support out.

On Sunday: Listen to world-class speakers at TEDxFulbrightDublin 2018

TEDx Talks are the entertainment of choice for many a lunch hour here in the IMAGE offices, and now, their Fulbright event is coming to Dublin for a series of talks entitled “Notion of a Nation”. The speakers are, as always, of an amazing standard, including addiction counsellor Joe Slattery, educator and comedian Áine Gallagher and academic and writer of the moment Emilie Pine (above). Tickets are miraculously still available for Sunday (12 pm to 5pm), taking place in the Dublin institution of the Tivoli on Francis Street.
