Should I buy these sunglasses chains?

Should I buy these sunglasses chains?

I’ve always been drawn to accessories; particularly sunglasses. Despite being a full-time glasses wearer for the past 20 years, I enjoy swapping out my regular, everyday glasses for pretty, colour-punch sunglasses in summer. But recently, my glasses – regular and sun versions – have become a nuisance. They have started to slide down my nose and they’ve been sat on, on more than one occasion.

Not willing to damage my beloved frames further, I found a cheap (€2) chain and fastened it to the frames of my glasses. And it worked perfectly fine until my family compared my new look to Dame Edna and Mary Berry which, though complimentary in many other ways, added 50 years to my age.

If, to tackle this trend, you require reassurance that you won’t end up looking like a blast-from-the-past secretary but rather an on-trend, cool girl, know that Bella Hadid has been spotted wearing them. Man Repeller founder Leandra Medine perfectly sports her chains with chunky jewellery and a comfortable looking boat. Dedicated UK brand Frame Chain just started selling its mid-range selection of chains on matchesfashion.com, and Australian sunglasses brand Lucy Folk actually designs its sunglasses with a small hole already carved out in each earpiece so that their stylish range of chains can fit seamlessly through. What does this all mean? My family’s opinion doesn’t really matter…

It’s true; the trend is having a full-on revival and it’s far from drab. Brightly coloured beads and pearls, thick gold chains and glitzy rhinestones jazz up what is an otherwise purely practical accessory. And, originating in the real Golden Age of glamour, I’m finding it difficult not to buy every pair I find on the internet. Hook your shades onto a cool pair of chains and rest assured that they won’t fall victim to unwarranted scratches, falls or being accidentally sat on this summer. And, importantly, when you’re done with them, they can always double as a cute necklace. In the words of Dame Edna, get yourself some face furniture. And remember, If Bella is at risk of losing her glasses then you are too…
