Emer Robert’s stunning Wearable Biology collection wins at last night’s Irish Design Awards

Last night, the Institute of Designers in Ireland welcomed over three hundred guests to the 20th annual Irish Design Awards, holding an exclusive celebration of the Irish design industry. Emer Roberts, a uniquely sculptural jewellery designer, won the accessories award for her Wearable Biology collection in the Fashion & Textiles category.

we’re obsessed with right now

Featuring the Dublin-based designer in our current issue, where we shone a light on an array of Irish designers doing incredible things both abroad and on home soil, Emer Roberts blew us away by her architectural artistry; this recognition merits her outstanding contribution to Irish design.

Emer’s artistic style

Launching her business in 2016, the visual artist independently expresses streamlined, sharp lines and geometric styles; where she expresses meticulous innovation and artistic imagination.

Inspired by modern architecture, her edgy aesthetic translates beautifully into her designs. The new Wearable Biology collection, which won her this prestigious award, explores her previous profession, taxidermy (or more specifically, rat work. Stay with me). The focus for this original collection is based on the rat’s tail, where she elaborates on its texture (although, not literally). It’s reflected elegantly in her jewellery.

Aisling Farinella, stylist and judge of the awards ceremony, says, “Emer Roberts work combines robust architectural design, delicate detail and conceptual thought which challenges conventional notions of beauty. Her approach to creating diverse collections – each examining personal aesthetic and artistic interests – sets her apart as a compelling Irish jewellery designer.”

Irish design has a new kind of offering, that’s refreshingly unique. In honour of her award, find Emer Robert’s stunning designs in our Look Of The Irish fashion editorial in the current Jan/Feb issue, on shelves nationwide, and check out emerroberts.com for her stunning Wearable Biology collection available now.
