Our five favourite puffer jackets for colder weather

Our five favourite puffer jackets for colder weather

With Storm Ali interrupting our morning commutes and fiddling with our electricity wires, we’re all well-aware summer has said goodbye and farewell. Autumn has officially arrived and has brought the ever-so practical puffer jacket along with it; and it’s plumper and puffier than ever. From last year’s army green and basic black designs, this season is all about loud colours and chic silvers – XXL style.

There’s something about a big puffy jacket in autumn that can brighten up a wintry morning like no other. Personally, I’m a complete comfort queen, so I’ll admit, I’m screaming for a good puffa. Anything with a duvet-like feel on the cold morning commute is a yes from me. Winter is synonymous with comfort foods and tummy warming recipes, so what’s better than swaddling around in comfy clothing as summer salads and tight dressing take a back seat? But it isn’t just the comfort I really love about a good puffer jacket, it’s also its street style status. Street style trendsetters preached “go big or go home” in supersized outerwear with feathery grandeur and shiny purple fabrics. And designers like Gucci gave us luxurious embroidered finishes while Phillip Lim brought mashed-up plaid and quilted jackets. We’ve shifted from tight silhouettes, belted trenches and stiff blazers, to oversized, snug outerwear. It’s a trend you can’t ignore (even if you wanted to). I’ll always invest in a good statement coat this time of year; it’s a must. Even when you’re feeling lazy (or cold) you can’t go wrong. Whether you’re wearing a plain black basic tee or a straight-leg jean, a statement puffer jacket will give you killer fashion credibility. Basics are basics; a coat is not.

We know Ireland is all about those cold spells and random downpours, so a good puffer is what you really need this season. Practicality has prevailed and yes, it’s pretty stylish too. Get your investment pants on and check out my edit of five puffies that’s both comfy and cool all at the same time:
