Meet the Experts

 

Elizabeth Whelan, Director of Zestivo 

 

Elizabeth Whelan, Director of Zestivo, is a health and wellness expert and a life and business coach.

Elizabeth started her career in the early 80s as a beauty therapist, make-up artist and teacher trainer. In her various roles she worked in high profile pharmacies and leading department stores in Ireland. She gained extensive experience working with reputable make-up and skincare brands, including Lancôme and Clarins. She subsequently became Head of Training at Clarins and established the first Clarins Dublin-based training school in Ireland. Her career further progressed when she was appointed Head of Training for Nuxe and she helped establish the brand to become one of the leading pharmacy brands currently in Ireland.

While progressing her career within the beauty industry, Elizabeth developed an interest in complementary therapies and qualified in many holistic therapies, life and business coaching.

Elizabeth gained further experience in these areas by developing skill sets through educational programmes in Ireland, India and Finland. In 2015, Elizabeth established Zestivo, a health and wellness company offering expert practical life-enhancing skills that can be implemented into daily life to energise the body and mind while minimising the stresses of daily life and guiding individuals to find joy in everyday living.

Through all of her work, Elizabeth has become a leading media commentator on skin and beauty care. She is an accomplished public speaker specialising in motivational talks on skincare, health, well-being and mindfulness.

 

Dr. Mary Ryan, Endocrinologist

 

Dr Mary Ryan trained in Trinity College Dublin and obtained her MB BCH BAO  in 1992.  She then specialized in Endocrinology and General Medicine and she is also on the Specialist Registrar.  She obtained the MRCP (UK) and did her MD thesis with Professor Gerald Tomkin in the Royal College of Surgery in Ireland and Trinity College, Dublin on Diabetes and Obesity.  She presented her findings internationally on her research on Lp(a) and Cardio Vascular Disease which she did with Professor Ian Graham in the Adelaide Hospital, Dublin.She lectured in Pharmacology in the RCSI and has a special interest in Diabetes, insulin pumps, obesity, infertility, osteoporosis, hypertension, Hyperlipidaemia and thyroid disease.

She was appointed Consultant Physician and Endocrinology to Barringtons Hospital in 2001 and also to Aut Even Hospital in Kilkenny where she runs four clinics per month.  She lectures to GP’s nationwide and also to the public on the prevention of Heart Disease and Type 2 Diabetes and its complications.  She was on the Women’s Heart Advisory Group for the Irish Heart Foundation and lectured to the public in the Royal College of Physicians Dublin on prevention of Type 2 Diabetes.

Dr Mary Ryan has also participated in a very popular public health education programme called “How long will you live” for four years on RTE and has made regular contributions to radio and television shows over the course of her career giving her expert views on Diabetes and Heart Disease.

She has lectured and tutored over the last five years in the Post Graduate Medical Degree programme in the University of Limerick.

Her Hobbies include Soprano Singing and she trained with Dr Veronica Dunne.   She produced a CD entitled “Carpe Diem”.

 

Paula Mee, CORU registered Dietitian

 

BSc., Dip Dietetics., MSc in Health Sciences., Dip Allergy, M.I.N.D.I.

Paula is a well-renowned food and nutrition consultant, with nearly 25 years’ experience. Paula provides an extensive range of services in nutrition, corporate wellness, marketing communications, recipe and menu analysis and product development. She has a comprehensive portfolio of clients from the food and pharmaceutical industry, educational establishments, catering & retail sector, the corporate industry & other groups of health professionals.

As part of her working week she runs a dietetic clinic in the Rockcourt Medical Centre in Blackrock. She is a current member and a past president of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (INDI), the professional body for dietitians in Ireland. Paula has been awarded Diplomas in Allergy , Sports and PR. She has additional training in behavioural change, health & wellness coaching and in her special interest area, gastroenterology.

Following the success of the best seller Your Middle Years, Love them, Live them, Own them, Paula’s has co-authored a new book Gut Feeling, on the management of gut problems, irritable bowel syndrome and the low fodmap diet, launched March 2017.
