What to watch in the cinema and from your own home this month and next month.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway, and Helena Bonham Carter all return for a mad little tea party courtesy of Disney. We’ll be thinking of the late, great Alan Rickman when the caterpillar speaks, wishing he could be magically brought back to us. Out May 27.

James Franco stars as a modern-day school teacher who travels back in time through a magic portal in his favourite local diner to prevent the assassination of JFK in this visual treat based on the Stephen King novel. The series just started on Fox on April 10, so catch up now. This will definitely be one to set the recorder for.

EYE IN THE SKY

Helen Mirren stars as a London- based military intelligence officer who’s remotely commanding a top secret drone operation to capture a group of terrorists from their safe house in Kenya, only to discover the group is setting their sites on a deadly suicide mission. This should be gripping indeed. Out April 15.

FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS

Directed by Stephen Frears (Philomena; The Queen) this is the true story of an heiress who pursued her dream of becoming a singer. The voice Florence (Meryl Streep) heard in her head was divine, but to everyone else it was awful. Her devoted husband and manager (Hugh Grant), managed to protect Florence from the truth until she decided to give her first public concert at NY’s Carnegie Hall. Out May 6.
