The John Lewis Christmas Ad Will Break Your Heart

Oh, dear GOD. The John Lewis ad literally kills us, without fail, every single year. Why do they want to make us cry? But it works, it stirs something inside of us that reminds us what Christmas is all about; love.

Of course, given that this ad features a sad old man, you’re going to lose the plot entirely. The song is beautiful as expected, Aurora’s version of Half the World Away by Oasis (which you’ll recognise as the opening song for The Royle Family).

In just two minutes, we’re told the story of a young girl called Lily. Looking at the moon through her family telescope one night, she is amazed at what she finds, a man on the moon. Lily watches on as our man goes about his chores, all alone up there. She becomes determined to get something to the moon, to send him a message and show him that someone down here is thinking of him.

Get the tissues out, in fact, get an entire roll of loo paper.
