David Beckham Is Eyeing Up An Acting Career

Former footballer and forever crush David Beckham is expanding upon his casual acting career. In recent years Beckham has starred in fashion shorts for brands such as H&M and Belstaff, and has made a few onscreen appearances in his pal Guy Ritchie’s movies. He recently made a blink-and-miss-it cameo in The Man From U.N.C.L.E, and is set to play a warrior in Ritchie’s upcoming King Arthur movie, Knights of the Roundtable, the first instalment in a planned franchise. However, now it seems like the 40-year-old is thinking of making some serious Hollywood moves.

The Times reports that the retired athlete and father-of-four is taking his time at considering a thespian career, mainly because he has watched a few crash-and-burns among his colleagues. Vinny Jones enjoyed a bright spark of a career in some of Ritchie’s early gangster movies while Eric Cantona has plodded along in French cinema. “I can’t just jump into roles that are too big for me. I want to build up my experience and see where it takes me,” he admitted to The Times in an interview last weekend.

“I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting – and failed. I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn’t want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice,” he told the newspaper’s magazine. “But what I have done so far, I have loved. ?I can deal with most things. I am a well-known person, so I have got used to criticism.?

Regarding his role in Knights of the Roundtable, Beckham’s part is more substantial than one would expect from such a new potential talent. ?I shot that about eight weeks ago. I am good friends with Guy and I trust him. He wouldn’t put me in a film if he thought I was going to ruin it. I had 13 lines and practised a huge amount beforehand. Guy had someone come and rehearse with me, and I did that an hour every day in the build-up… It was nerve-wracking delivering the lines, but it actually went really well,? David confessed, showing that he’s taking this new chapter seriously.

Keep your cinema going eyes peeled, we have a feeling this chameleon of a man, who counts whiskey entrepreneur and designer among his declarable incomes, may go even further. In the meantime, that King Arthur movie sounds like all our daydreaming-why-are-you-blushing fantasies rolled into one. Not only does it star David Beckham, but Charlie Hunnam, Eric Bana and Jude Law are also reporting for duty.
